A COUNTRY pub in Worcestershire has just re-opened after a £262,000 refurbishment including the addition of a new oak-framed conservatory.

The Swan at Hanley Swan was closed for two weeks in April for the make-over and has now opened its doors for customers to enjoy the new bright furnishings, local vintage and quirky items, redecoration and layout while the log burner creates a welcoming atmosphere.

The 18th century pub, which also has five newly updated bedrooms, was officially re-opened by Malvern Mayor Councillor Julian Roskams and attended by 400 people.

The publican Barney Reynolds took on The Swan Inn last September as a Punch Taverns Partner and this is the latest phase of his plan to put his mark on the pub.

As a returning local – he grew up four miles away – Barney is delighted to be bringing his 25 years’ experience in the leisure industry back home. He is particularly experienced in running fine dining establishments.

He said: “I’m aiming to create a really special pub for the village, complete with outrageously good food, served in a relaxed setting. Thanks to the Punch Taverns investment, we now have a better kitchen and more space for diners.”

Alongside a good range of real ales, ciders and wines, Barney has launched a new menu with pub classics, and British and international dishes. His chef, Renark Cousins, previously worked at Monty’s Bar & Brasserie in Cheltenham, which boasts two AA rosettes.

Chris Payne, new business development manager for Punch Taverns, said: “We’ve been really impressed by Barney’s very high standards. He’s created an amazing environment at The Swan Inn – clean and modern, at the same time as welcoming and rustic. We’re looking forward to a long and productive partnership.”
