A SPECIAL celebrity guest will officially open a fete celebrating the tenth anniversary of a Worcester Hospice on Saturday.

Jackie Llewelyn-Bowen, wedding organiser and wife of television personality Laurence, will cut the ribbon at the Acorns Children’s Hospice fete on May 2.

Mrs Llewelyn-Bowen said she and her husband had been keen to support the hospice, which cares for and supports children and young people suffering from life-threatening illnesses and conditions and their families – since visiting in January.

“I was so delighted to be asked to be part of the fete and to help the hospice mark a significant anniversary,” she said. “Laurence and I visited earlier in the year and were really touched by the work Acorns does.

“From chatting to the staff and volunteers the passion for the charity and devotion to caring for the children were obvious.

“It’s going to be a great event and I hope as many people as possible turn out to show their support.”

The fete at the hospice in Bath Road begins at 2pm and will include games, a bouncy castle, face painting and live music. Proceeds will go towards the charity’s effort to raise £50,000 to upgrade its gardens.

Community fundraising manager Mandie Fitzgerald said: “It’s fantastic news that Jackie has agreed to take time out of her busy schedule to formally open our fete.

“It promises to be a brilliant and fun afternoon that will hopefully raise lots of funds in what is a very important year for Acorns.”

She added the hospice was appealing for donations of bottles – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic – and plants to sell at the fete. Any donations can be dropped off at the hospice at any time.
