A TREE preservation order has been applied to a single lime tree in Malvern.
The order on the tree in St Anns Orchard, Worcester Road, was confirmed by councillors at Malvern Hills District Council's southern area development management committee on Wednesday (April 22).
A resident had applied for permission to fell the tree, stating decay in the pollard head could put nearby properties and car parking spaces at risk of falling branches.
But councillors disagreed and voted to protect the tree.
Councillor Bronwen Behan said during the meeting: "I enjoy seeing lime trees and I know this tree well.
"I would not want to see this tree removed."
She added pollarding and careful management would be a better solution.
