CHILDREN from five Malvern primary schools will be growing their own produce and selling it in a scheme run be a local supermarket.

The Waitrose Grow and Sell campaign aims to inspire children aged seven to 11 to create school vegetable patches, earn where food comes from and develop entrepreneurial skills.

And children from the Grove, St Matthias, Great Malvern, St Joseph's and Northleigh schools have stopped by at the Edith Walk store to pick up their Grow and Sell kits, which contains vegetable seeds, equipment and badges for children to designate roles for the growing process.

Once they have grown their veg, they will have the chance to sell it at a stall beside the shop's entrance.

This is the third year the Malvern branch has run the scheme, which has proved popular with the shop's customers.

Scott Whittaker, manager of Waitrose in Great Malvern said: “Having seen the success of the last two years' projects, it brings us immense pleasure to be able to offer the Grow and Sell scheme. We hope it will encourage children to choose to eat well and inspire entrepreneurial minds to flourish.”
