THERE will be the chance to learn life saving skills at a first aid course being run by St John Ambulance in Worcester next month.

The leading first aid charity is working to build a nation of lifesavers and is hoping people will be inspired to learn to save lives ahead of its 2015 Everyday Heroes Awards ceremony in July, which celebrates acts of first aid heroism.

On May 1 in Worcester there will be an essential first aid course running from 7pm until 10pm.

This course covers five main ways to save a life including helping an unconscious casualty (recovery position), choking, chest pain, severe bleeding and restarting someone’s heart.

The courses start from £30 including VAT, use hands-on demonstrations to train people and are suitable for anyone aged 12 upwards, although under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Emma Elgerton, community training co-ordinator for St John Ambulance in the West Midlands, said: "We have received some wonderful nominations for this year’s Everyday Heroes campaign and are looking forward to finding out who the winners are at our ceremony in London hosted by Kirsty Gallacher in July.

"Of course we are looking ahead to next year’s nominations, and training more first aiders who will be able to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved in their communities."
