YOUNG and old across Worcestershire enjoyed a fun-filled Easter this bank holiday weekend.

Attractions throughout the county held a range of Easter-themed activities throughout the weekend, with treasure hunts proving some of the most popular.

Among the most popular events was an Easter egg hunt at Gheluvelt Park in Barbourne arranged by the Friends of St George’s Catholic Primary School, which saw the park teeming with activity as scores of youngsters scoured the area to find the hidden eggs, with the promise of a chocolaty treat once they had tracked them all down.

Sarah Recker, one of the organisers, said the annual event, which has been running for about five years, said she was delighted by how successful it had been.

“It’s brilliant,” she said. “It’s a community event that raises money for the school friends.

“There are clues dotted around the park – some of them are quiz questions and some of them have letters on which can be rearranged into an Easter greeting.

“We’ve been blessed with good weather as well.”

Elsewhere in the county young explorers visiting Hanbury Hall and Gardens near Droitwich over the weekend got the chance to take part in a treasure hunt around the National Trust site. Every participant got a chocolaty treat at the end of the trail and visitors were also given the opportunity to decorate eggs with their own colourful designs.

All proceeds will go towards the charity’s work to maintain historic buildings and sites across the country.

Meanwhile Hartlebury Castle near Kidderminster ran a number of crafty Easter-themed activities to keep children occupied during the school holidays, with youngsters invited to make their own cards, headbands, crowns and stick puppets.

The Daisychain Benevolent Trust shop in Barnards Green, Malvern, also ran a raffle for a giant nine-stone Easter egg, with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Other events included chocolate trails at Worcester Cathedral and Tudor House in Friar Street and Easter-themed treasure hunts at Croome Park near Pershore and Eastnor Castle near Ledbury.

Many events are still running throughout the second week of the school holidays – for information visit the Worcester News website.
