A vet who lived as a rabbit for a weekend to raise awareness of what it's like for bunnies to be stuck in a hutch says the experience was "amazing".

Emma Purnell, head nurse at Stocks Veterinary Centre, in Upton, lived in a makeshift hutch at the surgery dressed in a rabbit onesie, lived off carrots and muesli and had only her pet guinea pig, Norman, for company through the nights to raise money for two rabbit charities.

The surgery was open for people to visit her, and information was displayed at the surgery to advise people on the needs of a pet rabbit during her charity effort last weekend.

She said: "It was a long 48 hours, but it went really well. Staring at the same four walls for that long and not eating much was quite hard, but a lot of people came and chatted to me about it and it was a good experience. I did need a couple of days off work after it though to recover.

"People coming in to find out more about what it's like to a rabbit stuck in a cage which was wonderful, and I'd like to think I did some good and made some people think about changing the ways they look after their pet rabbits."

Despite only having a target of £1,000, her rabbit themed charity effort raised £1672.73 for charities Fat Fluffs and Windwhistle Warren rescues, leaving her hopping with joy.

"I'm really happy with the amount raised, it was amazing.

"The campaign went mental in the end. After it appeared in the Gazette some of the nationals papers picked it up and it was all over social media, I couldn't believe it.

"But that's great as it helped spread the message more.

"I want to say thanks to everyone who helped and donated to make it a success" she said.
