A MAN was killed in a crash on the A441 Alcester Highway, Oakenshaw, Redditch.
His car went across the central reservation and collided with a lamppost before coming to a stop on the opposite side of the road at 2.30pm yesterday.
The road was closed for most of the evening while OPU Worcestershire carried out their investigation.
The man was unconcious when ambulance teams arrived but his condition quickly deteriorated.
As ambulance staff began to assess him he went into cardiac arrest.
Staff from a passing ambulance and a ptient transport services were the first to come across the scene.
They both stopped to administer basic life support.
They were quickly joined by a second crew and a MERIT trauma doctor as well as Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford and a senior paramedic officer.
The man was declared dead at the scene, and was the only occupant of the car.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Advanced life support continued on the man at the roadside but sadly, despite the teams’ best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
Michael Cadman, north Worcestershire fire commander, tweeted to say the highway would be "closed for a significant amount of time for @OPUWorcs investigation."
He asked people to avoid the area.
