HEALTH bosses in Worcestershire are working to highlight the health risks of poor nutrition and hydration.
As part of this week’s National Nutrition and Hydration Week NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group is working with healthcare organisations across the county to raise awareness of the health benefits of drinking enough water.
Awareness events have been held at hospitals while posters and leaflets have been posted at care and residential homes around the county.
The CCG’s director of quality and patient safety Mari Gay said it was particularly important for those in hospitals or care homes to maintain a good diet and stay hydrated.
“The consequences of poor nutrition and hydration are well documented and include increased risk of infection, delayed wound healing and decreased muscle strength,” she said.
“We’ve done a lot of work in Worcestershire to highlight the importance of hydration, through the Stay Hydrated Stay Healthy campaign.”
