THE flag of the Commonwealth flew over the Council House in Malvern this week to mark Commonwealth Day.
The flag was raised at 10am on Monday, by Cllr David Hughes, leader of Malvern Hills District Council, together with more than 730 other flags in 38 Commonwealth countries..
Cllr Hughes read out a specially-written speech before the flag was raised.
He said: “It is an honour to be a part of this unique ceremony by raising the flag as a mark of commitment to the Commonwealth and appreciation of the values it stands for as set out on the Commonwealth charter.
“It was a great experience to be able to share the event at the same time with local communities and other countries around the globe, showing a real sense of joining together.”
The event is now in its second year, and already catching the imagination of thousands of participants from all walks of life, inspiring them to connect with others throughout the Commonwealth, and gives participants opportunities for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth citizens around the world.
