MALVERN Hills District Council is looking to honour the best and brightest in the world of local sport with its 2015 Community Sports Awards.

The awards provide an opportunity for coaches, clubs, volunteers and participants from across the district to be recognised for their outstanding achievements and dedication to their sports.

This year there are 13 award categories ranging from community club team of the year two unsung hero of the year, and nominations are being eagerly sought.

The top two nominees in each category will be invited to the special presentation evening on Thursday, July 9, which this year is being held at Malvern College with the winner being announced on the night.

The evening will be hosted by BBC Hereford and Worcester drivetime presenter Andrew Easton, and produced by Malvern-based AN Event Services.

Cllr Phil Grove, portfolio holder for sports and leisure, said: β€œIt is fantastic that we are able to award not only the success of teams and individuals but also the dedication and contribution to sport within the Malvern Hills district and celebrate the hard-working sports men and women within the local community.”

Over 200 guests will be invited to the award ceremony, including nominees, their families, local sport and leisure clubs and organisations, local businesses and traders, district and county councillors, local MPs, partners in public health, West Mercia Police and many more.

Winners of the Malvern Hills District Community Sports Awards will be shortlisted for the prestigious County Sports Awards in November, which has been developed by the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The full list of award categories is: community project, inclusive project, club team, coach, club, newcomer, young volunteer, volunteer, young female sports personality, young male sports personality, female sports personality, male sports personality and unsung hero.
