A GROUP of joggers have put their best foot forward to raise some funds for Community First Responders.

The Malvern Joggers decided to make the responders their charity after one member, Steve Roode, of Yates Hay Road, Malvern, got chatting to workmate and responder Daryl Williams, of End Hill Way, also in Malvern.

The pair, who both work at Automate Packing Systems, had spoken about the work carried out by the responders, and Mr Roode decided to nominated them as the running club's charity for 2014.

But Mr Roode, who turned 50 last year, wanted to something extra, and set himself a target of doing a 1,000k in official races throughout the year.

He ended up completing a total of 1,195 Kilometres in various races, ranging from ultra marathons to 5k park runs.

He raised funds for two charities throughout the year with £1,375 going to the Lily Foundation and £440 for the Community First Responders.

He said: "I thoroughly enjoyed doing all the races all though it was a tough challenge. I'm very grateful to all the people that sponsored me, ran some of the races and I'm glad I could help people less fortunate."

The Joggers donated another £900 to the responders from their Annual 10k race and Pubathon events.

Mr Williams said: "Community First Responders are invaluable to all ambulance services. Unfortunately like all other groups countrywide we are a charity and rely on donations and fundraising to supply our volunteers.

"These much needed funds will go so far. They will enable us to replace old kit or perhaps enough to buy a full kit bag for a new responder.

"We are so happy to have been chosen and we thank Malvern Joggers so much."
