TRAFFIC gridlock has hit Worcester this morning - with drivers stuck in jams of around an hour due to a council survey.
Serious delays have hit the A4440 Southern Link Road, with tailbacks reported around Broomhall Way, Crookbarrow Way, Hams Way and Temeside Way.
Irate drivers say the tailbacks from Lower Wick are spiralling past Powick island, wth people trying to reach the city from Malvern particularly affected.
Worcestershire County Council is doing a traffic survey, asking drivers to pull over with police support from 7am to 7pm.
Last week it warned drivers delays were possible due to the survey, which is taking place on "key routes" across the city.
The county council has declined to reveal to us where the census points will be during this evening's rush hour.

@Fifi_lafret who thought a busy main road at rush hour would be a good time and place for a traffic census?! *picks up box of rotten fruit

Feel sorry for anyone delayed this morning. Maybe the survey could have been carried out during half term...? http://t.co/8TIBqvT17y

@worcesternews Utterly ridiculous time of day to do it - 50-minute delay on the bypass from A44 island to the M5. What even possessed them?

The council think it's a good idea to hold a traffic survey on the most congested roads in the city at the busiest time of day. Amazing.

Traffic in Worcester is a joke why would the police carry out a survey during morning rush hour? As if people aren't irate enough as it is

@johnwilsonWN There simply must have been another way to collate this information. Ridiculous. And to not give prior warning, unforgivable.

@worcesternews Total incompetence from our highways department yet again.

@worcesternews who to send the bill to for lost time? he also said 30 staff were late so who will pay the bill for lost productivity,
— Charli Phillips (@charlibird24) October 22, 2014
@worcesternews It was also my brothers first day at a new job for which he was an hour and a half late because of this #notgoodenough
— Charli Phillips (@charlibird24) October 22, 2014
@SMSWorcester @johnwilsonWN I agree the delays were ridiculous. One thing I must point out though, the council did pre-warn people last week
