WORCESTER is to get six new quieter and more environmentally friendly bin lorries at a cost of nearly £1 million.

Bins in the city will now be emptied using the new cleaner and greener lorries which cost Worcester City Council £900,000.

The new vehicles are cheaper to run and will have less impact on the environment with fuel-efficient engines and electric bin lifts which run more quietly and use less energy.

Cllr Andrew Roberts, cabinet member for cleaner and greener, said: "These new vehicles will make a real contribution to Worcester becoming a cleaner and greener city, and will reduce costs to taxpayers over time too."

My mother's black bin was eaten by the bin lorry this morning. Tipped it up and wouldn't give it back! Still, she gets a new bin now...

Good luck in getting a new bin out of the Council.
Mine was nicked some time back, it took months to get a new one. In the meantime the binmen kept leaving the rubbish as it was in a bag not a bin.

Bin eaten Tuesday morning, reported it Tuesday afternoon, shiny new bin delivered Thursday morning! Credit where it's due - excellent service from the council on this. Mother happy!
