STUDENTS will be celebrating clocking up more than 15,000 hours of volunteering so far this academic year.

Worcester Students’ Union will be holding its third annual Volunteering and Society Awards event at the New Road home of Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Tuesday, May 6

The union had set a target to double the amount of hours students volunteer in the local community and at the union itself, with the intention of going from 6,000 hours in 2013 to 12,000 hours this year.

They smashed the target and the ceremony begins at 7.30pm and will recognise the achievements of students who have undertaken a whole range of volunteering activities

It will culminate in the award for Community Volunteer of the Year, supported by Worcestershire Ambassadors.

Students who have been active members of societies devoted to the performing arts, running activities for local children and providing first aid will also be among those recognised for their hard work and commitment.

The celebration of student volunteering and involvement in student societies is sponsored by the University of Worcester.
