OUR Holy Week at Christ Church began with a simple and moving Maundy Thursday Holy Communion with Canon Harold Goddard where we thought of that first Communion consumed by Jesus himself and his disciples in that upper room, the very same we follow over 2,000 years after.

And Good Friday found us once again with Canon Goddard , this time reflecting on the Passion. In particular we were concentrating on St John’s narrative. A Devotional hour of quiet contemplation and transportation as we were asked to listen to John’s Gospel from Mary’s perspective. We can only imagine how she must have felt and for an hour in our busy lives we closed our minds to all outside distractions from that busy world and listened. There was such a beautiful stillness in the Church. We contemplated the double helix of joy and sorrow that Mary experienced throughout her life as the mother of Our Lord. We reflected on her joy and sorrow from the announcement that she was carrying the Son of God , the joy of his birth, his first miracle and to his death, the ultimate sorrow for her that fulfilled the prophecies and his destiny as Saviour of the world with the joy and victory of the cross. A joyous Easter Day found us celebrating Holy Communion with Reverend Alan Tostevin and Jesus revealing himself to Mary when she visited the tomb. And as we sang Thine Be the Glory celebrating our Risen Lord. Thanks to Viv and Dorothy for our beautiful floral displays.

We also had something else to celebrate, our new piano, which we are so delighted will enhance our concerts, a Steinway verte grand and we were so fortunate to hear it being played by our most accomplished players James and Kyle, who gave us taste of what was to come, after our service.

And it will soon be put to good use when on Sunday evening May 4 at 7.30pm we are delighted to be holding a Charity Concert for the Meningitis Research Foundation at Christ Church.
