Gritting teams prepare for action as the mercury drops
WITH the mercury set to drop this weekend, Worcestershire County Council's gritting teams are ready and waiting to help keep traffic on the move.
The Met Office has predicted low road surface temperatures over the weekend and due to the exceptional rainfall over the past few weeks, drivers are being reminded that any surface water could develop into black ice.
Drivers are urged to drive with caution and ensure they maintain a safe distance between themselves and other vehicles to allow for additional braking distance when roads are wet or icy.
With the possibility of icy road surfaces and fog, the advice remains that motorists should not assume roads have been gritted and to temper their driving accordingly.
Residents are also being encouraged to check on elderly residents and the more vulnerable members of communities, especially those who live alone as the cold weather sets in.
