A GROUP of dancing enthusiasts will be strutting their stuff in support of the Malvern Gazette’s Ease the Pain appeal.

The 21 Dance Club, which celebrated its 65th anniversary last year, has arranged a social evening for fans of sequence and modern ballroom dancing at the end of the month.

The evening on Saturday, August 31, is the latest in a series of monthly dances being held to raise money for various good causes.

Patricia Croft, of the club, said: “We’ve had several of them, and we’ve raised money for Macmillan, for St Richard’s Hospice and for St Michael’s Hospice.

“They’ve really been organised by Dot Palmer, who’s our longest-serving member, but she’s laid up in Malvern hospital at the moment after breaking her hip.

“It was because of talking to people in the hospital and because we read about the appeal in the Gazette that we decided to support the scanner appeal with our next monthly dance.

”We’ll have half and half modern ballroom and sequence dancing, with Marjorie Powell providing the music on CDs.”

The dance is on at 8pm to 11pm at Holy Trinity Parish Hall, Link Top. Entry is £3.

The Gazette launched the appeal earlier this year to raise money for a C-arm image intensifier, which will be used in the pain management clinic at the Worcester Road hospital.

It has a target of £60,000, and the total currently stands at £38,100.

Maureen Williams, secretary of the Friends of Malvern Community Hospital, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that the dance club thought of us for their next fundraising dance, and we hope they have a delightful evening.”

Other recent donations include £100 from Malvern Ladies Skittles and £220 from local resident Sylvia Stanley, who asked friends and relatives for donations in lieu of presents for a recent birthday.

The Friends are holding a shopping experience at the hospital next Saturday, August 17, starting at 2pm.
