SEVERAL prominent actors will star in the “rip-roaring comedy”

Dry Rot when John Chapman’s classic comes to Malvern Theatres later this month.

Liza Goddard, Susan Penhaligon, Gareth Hale, Norman Pace, Neil Stacey and Derren Nesbitt will appear in the production.

The hilarious farce tells the story of Honest Alf, Flash Harry and Fred, a bookie and his two accomplices who devise a sly plan in order to get rich quick.

Their cunning plot centres on the kidnapping of the odds-on favourite racehorse and replacing it with their own rather lacklustre nag.

Beset by hurdles at every turn – a comatose horse, a blossoming love affair and a bewildered French jockey, the trio are engulfed by chaos during their crooked race to the finish line.

The 1954 screenplay ran for more than three years in the West End, and was adapted into a film in 1956, starring Ronald Shiner, Sid James, Peggy Mount and Brian Rix.

Listed in the National Theatres’ top 100 plays, the farce has been described as “one of the finest examples of the genre”.

Dry Rot is at Malvern Theatres from Tuesday, June 19, to Saturday, June 23. with tickets from £15.50, under 26s £8.
