With an edge of intrigue and foreboding, a glittering' play is set to dazzle audiences in the Colwall Players' latest production.

An 11-strong cast takes on the challenge of Jean Anouilh's Ring Round The Moon at Colwall Village Hall from Thursday to Saturday, May 24-26.

The audience find themselves honoured guests at a grand ball at the chateau, to celebrate the engagement of the very eligible Frederic and the hugely wealthy Diana.

The remarkable union is the talk of the town but Frederic's identical twin brother Hugo intends to sabotage the affair, by smuggling attractive dancer Isabelle into the ball to seduce his brother.

Chaos ensues as a tangled web of desire unravels.

Anouilh's original version of the play was adapted by Christopher Fry, in 1947, who described it as a play that glitters, sparkling uneasily between the dark and the light.

Directing for the first time with the Players, Nigel Turner said the work was an ideal choice.

"The Players has more women than men and this play is one of the few that gives lots of good roles to the women," he said. "In fact, there aren't any token roles in the play at all, all the parts are important."

Established Players actor Lee Farley appears as both the brothers in the production, with Harriet Walker as Diana and newcomer Claire Revitt playing dancer Isabelle.

"The play really does sparkle, it's a mixture of comedy and the darker elements," added Mr Turner. "As the title suggests, a ring round the moon is beautiful when it happens but it comes with the sense that something is about to go wrong."

The production, which is performed in the round', begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 (concs £3) from John Goodwins Estate Agents on 01684 540300.
