PETER Donohoe, widely regarded as one of the foremost pianists of our time, has recorded a new album, accompanied by Orchestra of the Swan
This is a leading chamber orchestra based in Stratford-upon-Avon.
A spokesman said: "A formidable exponent of Russian music, Donohoe launched his highly successful international career as Silver Medal winner of the 1982 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
"Under the baton of Artistic Director David Curtis, this excellent recording of Shostakovich Piano Concertos 1 & 2 and Sonatas 1 & 2, is musical bliss from start to finish; Donohoe's virtuosic yet sensitive playing leaves nothing more to be desired and the orchestra plays with imagination and insight."
The spokesman added: "Orchestra of the Swan has made some notable recordings in its 21 years, but this new album “goes to the top of the list”, according to David Mellor from Classic FM. The CD is Album of the Week on the Classic FM website and is available online in the OOTS e-shop."
Peter Donohoe will be performing Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No 2 with Orchestra of the Swan on March 13 2018 at Stratford ArtsHouse and on March 14 at the Town Hall Birmingham. To book tickets visit www.stratfordartshouse.co.uk or www.thsh.co.uk
