THE festive season at Malvern St James school begins with a special concert this weekend.

Renowned Worcester-based choir The Elgar Chorale will join students to perform Britten’s St Nicholas cantata at 7.30pm on Sunday (December 7).

Donald Hunt will lead the Chorale and students through the programme, which also includes the Ceremony of Carols and the choral dances from Gloriana and the Simple Symphony.

Music administrator Amanda Langard said: “The concert promises to be a beautiful evening and the perfect start to the festive season, with the choir processing to plainsong by candlelight.”

A Traditional Christmas Concert is the title of the The Elgar Chorale’s next concert, which will be held at Worcester’s historic Guildhall on Wednesday, December 17, at 7.30pm.

The programme is a varied one to suit all tastes and tickets, at £8, include a glass of mulled wine or fruit punch. They are avaialble from The Elgar School of Music on 01905 28613.

Finally the Chorale and the English Symphony Orchestra will be performing Handel’s Messiah at Tewkesbury Abbey on Saturday, December 20. Tickets range from £6 to £26 and are available from the ESO on 01386 791044.
