A WARNDON woman is devastated after thieves stole her "priceless" wheelchair trailer, which was a Christmas present from her deceased husband.

Una Dunnett's husband, John Dunnett, gave the home-made trailer to her before he died from a chronic chest infection seven years ago.

The trailer was stolen between Friday night and Saturday morning from the hardstanding outside Ms Dunnett's home.

Una Dunnett, of Windermere Drive, said: "It was priceless to me. They have stolen my life.

"My husband made it for me when he was alive, it has more sentimental value than anything else.

"I can't get my wheelchair out unless I have got the trailer."

Ms Dunnett, 73, says she is thankful her husband does not know about the theft as he would have been very upset.

She has been using a wheelchair for around seven years due to severe arthritis.

"This is how I get out and about. Especially when I have flower shows and lectures on hostas. I have the national collection here," she said.

"I can get to the shops and back but I can't go out to the shows."

Ms Dunnett says she also has concerns about her safety after the theft.

"It was on the corner of my house. I'm worried I couldn't protect myself, I'm on crutches," she said.

"I haven't slept for two days. I have asked everybody and no one heard a thing.

"I went outside to the dustbin first thing Saturday morning and the chain was snapped on the floor."

Ms Dunnett cannot walk for more than 100m with crutches, which she uses to get into her car after putting the wheelchair in the trailer.

"I'm a bit naive and don't understand that people would be so wicked. I hope they didn't know how essential it was to me," she added.

Ms Dunnett and her husband were wheelchair users and both used the trailer.

She says there are more than 3,000 plants in her 60ft garden and has previously been in Gardeners' World.

The wooden box is four-feet high and wide, it has a number plate on it and has a drop down back.

A black plastic cover is attached to the top of the trailer with elastic bands.
