POLICE cadets could help protect bikes from thieves as they carry out security marking free of charge.

South Worcestershire Cadets will be at Asda in St Martin's Quarter, Worcester, this Saturday (January 10) between 10am and 2pm.

They will be providing those who attend with a security mark using a unique system from Retainaguard and the International Security Register.

The packs retail at approximately £12 each and will be provided free of charge in partnership with Worcester City Council and the Community Safety Partnership when the bike is registered at the event.

All types of pedal cycle are accepted as well as high value stunt style scooters. The cadets is a volunteer scheme aimed at young people which gives them a practical understanding of policing, develops their spirit of adventure and supports their local policing priorities through volunteering. Cadets also get the opportunity to take part in Outward Bound events, team building weekends and self-defence training.

The cadets are recruiting and anyone who is year 11 and at school is welcome to apply. The cadets and their cadet leader will also be on hand to help with any queries about applying at the event.
