WORCESTER Wolves have clinched their third signing for the new British Basketball League season in American Cortez Edwards.

Edwards, 22, joins following his senior year with Southern Miss Golden Eagles in the NCAA Division One Southern Conference.

The 6ft 2in guard averaged 13.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 steals in 2018-19.

He earned Second-Team All-Conference USA honours and was a finalist for the C Spire Howell Trophy presented to the top player in Mississippi.

New Wolves head coach Matt Newby is happy with the latest addition to the roster who hails from the University of Southern Mississippi.

He said: “In signing Cortez I feel we are really beginning to take shape.

"He compliments the perimeter we are putting together and fits the profile of a player who will contribute significantly at this level.

"Statistically Cortez was a huge contributor at Southern Miss in NCAA Division One’s Southern Conference.

"I think this will translate incredibly well in the BBL and I am excited about the significant contribution he will make not just on the floor but in our basketball community as a role model.”

After agreeing his first professional deal Edwards: “I am very excited to begin my professional career with the Worcester Wolves.

"We will have a great year and lots of exciting moments.

"I am ready to get to work and bring the Wolf Pack a successful and exciting season.”
