WORCESTER Warriors have made two boardroom appointments by promoting Peter Kelly as managing director and recruiting Michael Davies as commercial director.

Since arriving at Sixways a year ago to become operations director, Kelly has overseen the stadium improvements that have taken place over the summer.

The work included the installation of new floodlights, two big screens with digital ribbon, an upgraded public address system and new fan zone.

Co-owner Jason Whittingham praised the efforts of Kelly who previously had a long and successful business career in the retail sector.

“Peter has done an outstanding job in the last 12 months, in particular providing modern and effective facilities for all visitors to Sixways,” Whittingham said.

“All the projects that we have undertaken over the summer have been significant in terms of cost and logistics and Peter and the operations team have delivered them on time.

“Peter has led the off-field team with passion and good humour and we are delighted that he has accepted an enhanced role as managing director.”

Davies, who will start work at Sixways on Monday October 14, has a successful track record across a range of sports.

He will join Warriors from Wycombe Wanderers Football Club where he had been general manager since 2017 where he oversaw the promotion of the club.

Davies has previous top-flight rugby experience having been operations manager of London Welsh from 2014 to 2016 and worked as a consultant to the International Rugby Board – now World Rugby – from 2013 to 2014.

He also worked for the Ireland Hockey Association as manager of senior and junior international teams between 2010 and 2011 having graduated from University College, Dublin with an MSc in Sport and Exercise Science.

Before moving into sport, Davies worked in financial services for HSBC, Skipton Building Society and Lloyds TSB.

Co-owner Colin Goldring added: “Michael’s experience of working for a Football League club with the community at its heart and knowledge of rugby from his time with London Welsh will be invaluable to Warriors.

“He has great knowledge of running a busy stadium on matchdays and non-matchdays, he brings strategic vision with experience in managing commercial relationships.

“We believe that he will be a significant asset to Warriors and we look forward to working with Michael at the Warriors.”

Davies will join Whittingham, Goldring, Kelly and finance director Lisa Wicks on the board at Sixways.
