WORCESTER Warriors boss Alan Solomons says he is willing to listen to offers for out-of-favour scrum-half Luke Baldwin to go out on loan.

Baldwin penned a three-year contract in February last year but has made just two first-team appearances this season.

His last outing for Warriors came in November when he was replaced at half-time in the Premiership Cup loss at Saracens and has not played a competitive match since December when he turned out for Worcester Cavaliers.

Solomons said the 28-year-old had slipped to fourth in the pecking order but insisted “that’s the nature of competitive sport”.

“Luke is part of the squad but at the moment it is competitive in the scrum-half position,” Solomons said.

“Francois (Hougaard) has obviously been the number one. Jonny (Arr) and Michael Heaney have competed for the number two and three positions and we have swapped between them at various times in the season.

“As we have four scrum-halves it has just been tough for Luke as he has perhaps not had the game-time that he would have wanted.

“But we have got to make our selections and that’s the nature of competitive sport.”

Baldwin has scored four tries in 36 games since joining Worcester from Bristol in the summer of 2015 with the bulk of those appearances coming in the 2016-17 campaign.

His chances of featuring in blue and gold are likely to be slim until Cavaliers resume their Premiership Shield campaign in April and Solomons said he “would like the player to be playing”.

“There has got to be an opportunity for a player to go out on loan and unfortunately those opportunities have not arisen,” Solomons said.

“Carl Kirwan is out on loan (at Ealing) at the moment. He came back and had a splendid game for us (against Saracens) at the weekend."

Asked whether he would be willing to move Baldwin out on loan, Solomons added: “Yes, absolutely.

“I would like the player to be playing.

“We don’t have Premiership Shield games until the bloke in April time which would give him an opportunity for game-time.”
