AERIAL skills, pace and a strong defensive game make Perry Humphreys a handy “all-rounder” in Worcester Warriors’ back-line.

That’s the view of head coach Rory Duncan who believes Humphreys is just as capable under the high ball at full-back as he is flying down the flanks.

Humphreys has spent much of his career on the wing but this season he has also demonstrated his versatility.

The 24-year-old donned the number 15 shirt for back-to-back European Challenge Cup clashes in October and Duncan says he remains a useful back-up option for Warriors when Chris Pennell is unavailable.

“Perry has been going really well for us,” Duncan said.

“He picked up an injury recently but up until that point he has really improved as the season has gone on.

“He has shown he is really capable at wing and full-back.

“He has hit some hard lines for us and is really good under the high ball.

“Also every week we have some internal prizes and Perry actually picked up one of the defenders of the week awards. As an all-rounder he is a quality player.”

Humphreys has made 11 outings for Warriors this season including a man-of-the-match display in the 25-17 defeat to Saracens in late December.

The former Leicester academy ace, who has been at Sixways since 2014, was rewarded for his efforts at Sixways with a new two-year contract.

“With Bryce (Heem), Joshy (Adams), Perry, Dean Hammond and Tommy Howe all wingers there is a lot of competition in that position,” Duncan said.

“But Perry has certainly been making his mark this season. He really impressed me defensively in the Saracens game but in saying that he also hit some hard lines and opened up a lot of space for us.

“It is nice to have a player of Perry’s ability that can cover two positions.

“It is important that wingers also have aerial skills and run hard lines as well.

“Perry is quick so I believe he is a winger but is capable of covering full-back too.”

Lincoln-born Humphreys is sidelined with an ankle injury and targeting a return for the Premiership trip to Harlequins a week on Saturday.
