CHAIRMAN Bill Bolsover says Worcester Warriors’ new owners are looking to secure a “major sponsor” with naming rights for Sixways Stadium up for grabs.

Bolsover conceded Warriors had found it difficult to secure long-term sponsorship deals while the Premiership outfit was up for sale.

But with Jed McCrory’s consortium taking over earlier this week Bolsover is hoping the club can now attract “big names” to boost their hopes of reducing losses.

The current deal with main sponsor Greene King is understood to be worth £175,000 per year, increasing to £180,000 per year from financial year 2019, and runs until July 2021.

However, the club’s brewery partner is thought to be prepared to move its logo to a less prominent area of the kit for the same yield should an alternative shirt sponsor be identified.

“Where I think Jed will help is getting sponsorship on our shirts, bringing in the bigger players in Worcestershire to now get behind this club,” Bolsover said.

“It has been difficult to get people to put long-term sponsorship in when they don’t quite know who they are sponsoring.

“Now they know where we are going as a club, so we will be renewing our efforts to get our sponsorship up and get big names on the shirts.”

As Worcester News reported in January, Warriors projected a return to profitability by 2020 in figures sent out to potential investors.

In the 2015-16 season the club announced a pre-tax profit of £14.3million which wrote off loans of £20.4million but registered losses of £8.1million 12 months on. The club’s financial ambitions hinge on a projected 47 per cent rise in match-day revenue and 90 per cent increase in sponsorship over the next three years.

In response to the estimated figures Bolsover said: “I think it is all possible because you have only got to get one decent sponsor and it lifts your percentage very quickly.

“We are looking and certainly Jed wants to go out and find a major sponsor.”

The idea of attaching a brand name to Warriors’ 11,499-capacity ground has been floated for several years.

Asked whether selling stadium naming rights was still on the agenda at Warriors, Bolsover said: “We would do, I am sure.

“If someone came along and said they want their name on the stadium, we would do it.”

According to literature put together by Livingstone, who helped to sell the club, the Sixways outfit are forecast to post reduced losses of £2.8million in the financial year 2018. Bolsover praised previous owners Sixways Holdings Limited for bringing “incredible stability” to Warriors.

“They have invested in this club amazingly in the past nine years when you look at the 4G pitches, the amateur club and the freeholds here,” Bolsover said.

“We also refurbished all the facilities for rugby.

“There is not another club that has been sold with all those paid for. We didn’t sit with any debts.”
