WORCESTER Warriors boss Alan Solomons reckons an England call-up is in the offing for “physical” young flanker Ted Hill.

The Worcester-born back rower has scored three tries in two Premiership appearances as he crashed over in Warriors’ 28-11 defeat at Exeter Chiefs on Saturday.

Solomons was impressed by how well the 19-year-old stood up to the might of a powerful Exeter side in what was his first senior start for his boyhood club.

And Warriors’ chief said he would be “absolutely amazed” if Hill was not playing for England “sooner rather than later”.

“What has impressed me about Ted – and he proved it against Exeter – is that he can cope with the physicality of this level,” Solomons said.

“He is one hell of a forward.”

Hill came off the bench to score a second-half brace including a match-winning try in Warriors’ 44-37 victory over Leicester Tigers at Welford Road last week.

“As a young guy he has got it physically and mentally,” Solomons continued.

“He doesn’t stand back for anybody when he goes out there.

“Against Leicester he came on but he is starting now and it doesn’t bother him in the least.

“He is a big, strong, physical, skilled, determined and committed player and is very professional.

“I would be absolutely amazed if he doesn’t play for England sooner rather than later.”

Hill made his first-team debut in the Anglo-Welsh Cup last season and was part of the England side that finished runners-up in the World Rugby U20 Championship this summer.

The former Worcester Sixth Form College student has previously played in the second row but Solomons sees him as a blindside flanker and admits he will find it difficult to take the number six shirt off him now.

“I knew last year there was talk (about him) and I said ‘no, it is too early for him, let’s wait and pick the moment’.

“That moment came and he will be hard to move out of there, that’s for sure.

“He can go to lock and I know he did play there at age-group level but I think he is ideally quipped for six.”

Hill’s academy team-mate Ollie Lawrence, 19, also made his Premiership debut at the weekend as he played the final 20 minutes of Worcester’s clash with Chiefs.

“Ollie did really well and I am chuffed that he came on in his correct position which is 13,” Solomons added.

“Both Ollie and Ted are talents.”
