MALVERN cruised through to the semi-final of the North Midlands Shield with a crushing 105-0 victory over a weak Veseyans team.

Captain Tom Hale top scored with five tries as Malvern crossed the whitewash 17 times in a one-sided encounter at Spring Lane, setting up a semi-final date against Whitchurch.

Within the opening 40 seconds the hosts set the tone as Hale left the defence standing for his first try which Rob Cook converted.

From the restart, Malvern struck again got on the front foot before slick handling found Ieuan Mustow, who burst through to score, Cook converting.

The next attack saw Hale caught, but he flipped the ball out for Cook to set scrum-half George Parsons up for a score and another two points from Cook.

The following play saw the ball head off to the right hand side of the field where Conor Giggle was on hand to speed through and bag a try, with Cook again converting.

After Veseyans had won a penalty to take them into the home 22 area, Malvern turned the ball over and went back on the attack. Mustow's kick and chase was rewarded with another try.

Turning over another Veseyans scrum, Malvern again worked the ball upfield, some brilliant interplay between Giggle and Luke Milton ending with a score for the latter.

The half ended with two more tries for Hale as he strolled through a easy run-ins against a flagging defence. Cook's conversions made the score 52-0 at the break.

The second period was a case of repeating the dose. Mustow did get held up on the line only for the pack to arrive and drive on for him to score at the second attempt.

Hale was next to put in a kick and chase for a try which Cook converted before Ben King looked to be on course to join the score sheet only to stumble and knock the ball on.

Pressure on the Veseyans scrum saw them take the ball behind the goal line, fail to touch it down and Malvern won the resulting maul for a rare Adam Green score.

As Malvern were now running at will, Hale scorched through and then prop Liam Roleston joined in with a stunning 40 metre sprint. Roleston received a yellow card for a tip tackle.

But the hosts continued to run riot as Cook dummied through for a try.

King got onto the roster with a try and conversion. Parsons then brought up the century before Mustow rounded off proceedings with his fourth try.

Malvern return to Midlands Two West (South) action tomorrow when they host Old Yardleians (2.15pm).
