MALVERN Town Women booked their spot in the final four of the Worcestershire FA County Cup following a 3-1 home win against Bromsgrove Sporting Ladies.

The hosts played into a strong wind in the first-half and they were forced to defend deep as Sporting dominated possession and territory.

Jess Kenny, Becky Evans, Amelia Bowers, Leah Baker and Millie Meadow made sure the centre of the pitch remained compact, leaving Sporting no choice but to go long and rely on the pace of their forwards.

Lois Unwin, Leah Baker, Millie Meadows and Zoe Bloss in defence limited Sporting to very few chances and, on the few occasions they did find a way through, Emma Cropper was there with some vital saves to keep the scores level.

The half looked like it was going to end 0-0 until four minutes before the interval when a Sporting corner found its way into Town’s net.

Coming out into the second-half, Malvern now had the wind on their backs and the hosts wasted no time in bringing themselves level as four minutes after the restart, Becky Evans headed home from a Lucia Meigh corner.

Like Town had in the first half, Sporting found it difficult to put any meaningful attacks together as the conditions prevented them from being able to get up the pitch.

Town then completed the comeback in the 70th minute with a repeat of their first goal, this time Jess Kenny finding the net from another brilliant Meigh corner.

Town managed the game superbly for the last 20 minutes and deservedly got a break away third as Sporting pushed for a leveller. Brooke Taylor finding the net after an Emily Byrd effort had been blocked.
