Malvern Town Women ended Redditch Borough Women's unbeaten start to the season as they put themselves firmly in the title race with a hard-fought 2-0 win.

The opening goal arrived with ten minutes on the clock when Saff Boswell did well to evade a few challenges before finding Jade Smith who fired home from the edge of the area.

Redditch controlled the ball for the majority of the first-half but Malvern doubled their lead through Jess Kenny's close range finish.

The visitors pushed to get back in the game but a mixture of Malvern keeper Em Cropper, a solid back-line and the woodwork ensured Town held on for a victory that moved them to third in the Midwest Counties Female Football League table, one point off the top of the table.

An understandably delighted manager Mark Taylor praised his side's ability to dig deep and produce the goods.

"It was an outstanding result," beamed manager Taylor.

"Whilst our opponents enjoyed more possession than us, we defended the better of the two teams and got the goals.

"We’ve put in some really good displays of late, differing performances against different kinds of opponents, and it shows that we have many strings to our bow and can adapt our game.

"Full credit to the players for their efforts and a special mention to young Zoe Bloss who came in for her debut and was outstanding."
