BOBBIE Dale scored his first two goals for new club Malvern Town before leaving the game late on with an injury as The Hillsiders came from behind to beat Abingdon United 3-2 in the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup on Tuesday night.

Dale, who signed from Worcester City last week, was making his full debut and proved to be the match winner as his 86th minute goal saw Malvern overturn a 2-1 half-time deficit to progress into the second round.

The former Cheltenham Town youngster scored his first four minutes into the second-half to equalise after Abingdon recovered from Ben Hayes’ early goal to lead 2-1 at the break.

But Dale’s night ended in frustration as he was forced to come off in the final stages which will be of a concern but it is not feared the injury is too serious.

After the game, co-manager Lee Hooper praised his new striker for his impact but admitted he still needs game time to get up to full speed.

"It was pleasing to see Bobbie get a couple of goals, we know scoring goals is what he is all about," said Hooper.

"Just playing off the shoulder of the defender, playing across him and getting on the end of things is what he does best.

"He has had a few more chances and is not happy with his overall conversion rate but he is a natural goalscorer and it's great for us to have him.

"He needs the minutes and you saw that with him having to come off at the end but it's great to see him off the mark."

Malvern travel to Wantage Town this Saturday for a 3PM kick-off.
