Malvern Town scored twice in four first-half minutes as they recorded a famous 2-1 win over local rivals Worcester City to progress to the preliminary round of the FA Cup.

895 supporters packed into the HDAnywhere Community Stadium and it was the home fans who were celebrating in the 23rd minute when Jack Horrell lashed one home

The Malvern supporters were then on their feet again just four minutes later as Ben Hayes made it 2-0 with a glancing header past Adam Harrison in the City goal.

Demetri Brown halved the deficit in the final 20 minutes but despite dominating the latter stages, Tim Harris' men could not find an equaliser and were dumped out of the FA Cup.

The visitors had started well with Brown and Sean Brain going close in the opening five minutes of the cup tie.

Billy Shaw then had a lobbed finish cleared off the line by centre-half Carrick Hill before Ben Hayes fired over.

Brown again went close for Worcester but it was Malvern who took the lead when Horrell swept home from inside the box after a flowing move.

City had hardly had time to settle after going a goal down before it became two as Hayes beat his man in the air to head home.

City struggled in the second-half to get their attack firing but substitute Elliot Hartley, on his competitive debut, came on and it was his square ball that found striker Brown to make it 2-1 from close range.

Worcester's momentum was stalled somewhat as they were caught on the counter and Ben Tilbury received a second yellow card after a professional foul.

City still pushed but Malvern managed to slow the game down at every opportunity as they tried to run the clock down late on.

Bobbie Dale was also introduced by Harris as they searched for the equaliser and he almost found it but his header drifted just wide.

Aaron Roberts had the final chance deep into stoppage time as he lost his man in the box but his header on goal was again cleared off the line.

And Malvern then saw the game out to record a memorable win and they will now await the winner of the replay between Worcester Raiders and Daventry Town.
