Malvern Town booked their spot in the next round of the Hellenic League Challenge Cup last weekend after a 3-1 win over Westfields.

Harry Clark converted from the penalty spot inside the first minute to give the hosts the dream start before second-half goals from Dave Reynolds and Matt Turner made sure it was The Hillsiders who would progress.

Malvern did see Lewis Platt sent-off on the hour mark for a late challenge and Westfields then pulled a goal back through Daniel Stoneman in the final ten minutes but it proved to be nothing but a consolation as Town saw the game out.

It means Malvern will head to Brimscombe & Thrupp in the next round of the cup, which will take place on Wednesday April 6 at 7.45pm.

The game had not even hit the 30 second mark before a handball from Westfields allowed the hosts the chance to take the lead and Clark made no mistake from the spot.

Both sides had chances after the opener but it remained just 1-0 at half-time.

Into the second-half and this time it was the visitors who made a bright start and Keiron

Blackburn did well to stop a shot from Stoneman.

But against the run of play, Town doubled their advantage as Reynolds did well to keep the ball before firing into the net.

And two quickly became three when a sweeping move ended with Turner finishing from close range.

It was all happening and three minutes after going 3-0 up, Malvern were reduced to 10 men when Platt put a late challenge in to deny a break away for Fields.

Stoneman bagged a goal in the 82nd minute but the away side had left it too late to produce a comeback and Town held on to win 3-1.
