BRANSFORD'S Handicap Trophy offered the prospect of a surprise when the first-round leader was one of the club’s juniors.

Young Norton Fowles (33 handicap) was three shots ahead with a 96 gross.

Stuart Crump was second with 76 gross 10 handicap 66 nett and Steve Collins third with 77-10=67.

Maks Wyard (5), Carl Wilshire (19) and Jonathan Hunt (12) went into day two on 68 while Ollie Walker (1) shot a lowest gross of 71.

But Fowles’ challenge faded in the second round when he finished with 119 gross for 68 nett and a two-round total of 149.

Collins stepped up to finish first with a two-round 132 nett through 75-10=65.

Wyard moved up to be runner-up with the second day's lowest gross of 72-5=67 for 135 overall.

Three had 140 in Crump (84-10=74), Hunt (84-12=72) and Jason Keane (90-19=71 and 88-19=69).

Walker had 144 for his two rounds while Harry Chadwick (scratch) finished on 146 for the same score as Pete Sheppard (16) and Wilshire.

On-song Mike Davidge (86 gross 16 handicap 70 nett) shot the lowest gross in the seniors' August medal to win by two from Rob Blake (87-15=72).

June Atkinson (94-21=73) took third in Division One from her husband Trevor (87-14=73) on countback with both on 73 nett.

Lee Dyment got 95-19=76, Graham Wilks 96-18=78 and Keith Edgell 97-19=78.

Division Two went to Roy Williams (94-22=72) by two from Ken Jones (96-22=74) and Geoff Aston (94-20=74).

Williams and Aston both carded the lowest gross in the division.

Bob Mathews scored 96-21=75, John Phillips 96-21=75, Neil Sheldon 96-21=75 and Andrew Jarvis 100-24=76.

Division Three was tighter with Dick Bettsworth (100-25=75) just edging out Mike Hendry (105-29=76) after he had achieved the lowest gross in the section.

Roger Steade got 107-28=79, Adrian Wood 105-26=79, Gordon White 106-26=80, John Knowles 106-26=80 and Mike Kemp 111-31=80.

Bransford seniors beat visitors Wharton Park 6½-1½ just a week after losing narrowly at the Bewdley club.

Dave Wild (13) and Gordon White (26) won 5&3, Davidge (16) and Harry Godwin (21) 5&4, Phil Spencer (19) and Sheldon (21) 3&2, Phillips (21) and Jarvis (24) 6&5, Blake (15) and Ferey Ghani (15) 6&4 and Andy Falconer (25) and Roger Clark (24) 2&1.

Chris Cale (18) and Mike Weaver (19) halved while Dave Miller (18) and Alan Wallcroft (24) lost 3&2.
