THE Worcestershire beat visitors Newport 3½-2½ after the greens staff ensured the match survived heavy morning rain.

The winning pairings were Geoff Fox and Joe Simpson, Bradley Smith and Peter Pearson and Will Jones and Johnny Williams.

Pete Jolley and Wickes Potgeiler fought back from four down with four to play to secure a half.

Di Wilde rose to the challenge of a change in temperature and ground conditions to record 72 nett in the Silver Division Cup.

She finished three shots ahead of runner-up June Jones on 75.

Alliance specialists Jenny Musson, Pauline Savage and Christine Goody finished 10 points ahead of their nearest rivals Joan Haworth, Jan Bartlett and Kate Foster.

It was a tighter affair in the nine-hole stableford where Kate Cross returned 12 points, Marie Willis 13 and Ann Goode topped the table with 14.

Round three of the senior tankards was a close affair as Trevor Simmons won with 41 stableford points from Tony Cox on 39 and Paul Butler on 38.

The Worcestershire seniors won their inaugural match at home to Naunton Downs 4½-3½.

Captain Andy Peet and Tony Cox won 5&3, Ken Willett and Euan McClelland 3&2, Steve Johnson and Tim Keates 7&6 and Keith Hitchcock and Mike Travis 4&3.

Terry Cox and Robin Marling halved while there were losses for Stan Jones and Ron Gordon 2&1, Phil Bayliss and Alan Hickman one-down and Tony Pawson and John Thompson one-down.

In the Alan Courtney Greensome Stableford, Greg Michael and Neil Anderson stormed to a 23-point total on the front nine and matched it on the back to win by one from John Monk and Philip Park with 45.

Roy Cale and Mark Williams finished third with 42.

Meanwhile, Alexander Park seniors teamed up for victories in several competitions.

A stableford pairs was won by Alan Shakesheff and Michael Hawkins with 70 points from Carl Tasker and George Cozens on 66 and Ray Saunders and Clive Nield on 65.

The seniors also played a triple six team competition with Tim Hollingworth, Ray Ingram, Gregory Brunt and Don Filer triumphing with 117 points.

Geoff Foster, Cozens, Keith Smith and Peter Rouse were second with 110 and Julian Smith, Nield, Steve Norwood and Tasker third with the same score.
