Worcester 219-7, Worcester Nomads 220-2.

WORCESTER Nomads cemented their second place berth in Worcestershire League Division One with a convincing success at Worcester, their second win of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Nomads bowlers Damon Gariff and Christian Elsden kept a tight line and length from the start and scoring was less than fluent.

Gariff then injured his back and Ben Schiffmann took over.

None of the Worcester batsmen, with the exception of Jack Horton, came to grips with the bowling.

The introduction of Geoff Taylor’s off-spin into the attack changed the game and he took 5-76 off his 15 overs. Horton eventually fell for an entertaining 80, as Worcester closed on 219-7.

Sam Roberts and Guy Davies made steady progress toward their target until the latter was bowled by Liam Weston for 15.

Jon Inglis was stumped by Josh Barrett off the bowling of Worcester captain Liam Kelleher for 25.

Steve Bowman joined Roberts and immediately upped the tempo. Bowman made 70 not out and Roberts was undefeated on 69, making a century partnership, which assured an eight-wicket victory with four overs to spare. A vintage bowling performance from Worcester Nomads’ left-arm seamer Schiffmann ensured a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over visitors Colwall.

The effects of the previous week’s rain were still apparent in the pitch and Colwall, inserted first, struggled to find any rhythm.

Schiffmann drew first blood when he bowled Jonty Hylands for nought.

Mike King (24) and Odge Davey (13) showed some resistance.

King was smartly stumped by Nomads captain Steve Walsh and Davey was lbw, both to Schiffmann.

Dannie Rees mopped up the tail with 2-6, but bowling honours went to Schiffmann, who returned figures of 6-27 off his 17 overs, as Colwall were dismissed for 97.

Nomads openers Roberts and Davies started watchfully but reached the target fairly easily in 30 overs.

Roberts was undefeated on 16 and Davies, more expansive in the latter part of his innings, finished with an unbeaten 55.

A contribution of 30 on Saturday extras was no help to the Colwall cause.

Nomads seconds travelled to Colwall in the Worcestershire League (Second XI) and came away with the lion’s share of the points.

Nomads vice-captain Malcolm Jones won the toss and elected to field.

Colwall got off to a solid start and reached 50-3 off the first 14 overs but were all out for 91.

Nomads got home by six wickets as Roger Dixon top-scored with 26no.
