CALLIE Halliday defied sub-zero temperatures to heat up the Pan Celtic canoe slalom first leg in Scotland.
The Chase pupil from Malvern, 18, spent 10 days training on the River Tay in Grandtully, Perthshire, before competing in her first year as part of the senior England team.
Halliday put in an eye-catching display, coming first in the divisional race with no penalties for her first clear run of the season.
The youngest competitor for England in the women’s C1, she was also their fastest paddler and finished second behind a Scottish opponent.
Halliday camped in Scotland to keep the cost of the trip to a minimum and cleared the snow off her tent at 4am one morning as the weight had started to collapse her temporary home. She is now back in training for her next England race next month in Nottingham.
