THE Worcestershire Golf Club hosted a big date in their calendar with the new captain’s inauguration.
Having taken over the captaincy from Andy Davis at a dinner the previous night, Jim Wilde struck the traditional three drives down the first fairway in Malvern Wells. He was watched by many spectators who hoped to win a prize by predicting the distance.
Then 150 competitors took part in a stableford alliance with two scores to count on each hole.
The morning round was won by John Davies (12 handicap), Shaun Porritt (14), Gary Godwin (11) and Chris Rawlings (10) with 81 points.
The afternoon winners were Phil Park (10), Nick Smith (5), Mark Read (5) and Phil Birch (7) with 83.
