CHRIS Powell insists his Ledbury Town side have the strength in depth to cope with a flurry of injuries when they return to cup duty tomorrow.

The New Street side have at least six first-team players out of tomorrow’s home Strongbow Senior Cup first round tie with Pegasus Juniors Reserves (ko 2pm).

James Dean (calf), George Titrig (knee), Ashley Jones (dead leg), Duncan Preedy and Carl Wildig (both hamstring) are all on the club’s treatment table.

Team-mate Jamie Welch also faces six weeks on the sidelines after breaking his collarbone.

But joint-manager Powell says his side can cope with the growing list of absentees after maintaining their 100 per cent start to the season in the Herefordshire League Premier Division with two victories in four days.

On Saturday, Ledbury defeated Kington Town 4-1 with goals from Jones, Titrig and a Sam Dixon brace.

This was followed up by a 3-1 victory over Bartestree on Tuesday with Tom Boyle, Tom Watkins and Dan Herbert on the scoresheet.

This victorious double sees Ledbury lie top of the table on a maximum 27 points from their opening nine games, 10 clear of second-placed Ewyas Harold, who have two games in hand.

After Saturday’s cup clash, Ledbury take a break from action with their next game being a Herefordshire FA Charity Bowl tie at Ewyas Harold on November 19.

Powell said: “I put our good start to the season down to a little bit of confidence, team spirit and good players.

“We’ve got a few injuries now but I think we have the strength in depth in our squad to cope with it.

“The injuries give some of the squad players an opportunity to start and keeps the good atmosphere in the squad going. “We have to play Ewyas Harold twice still this season so, if we can beat them at least once and maybe draw the other one, it would give us some breathing space at the top of the table.

“Bartestree was a really difficult game for us.

“In the second-half they were getting on top, but we held our nerve and played well.”
