CARETAKER-manager Mike Pitt concedes it could be his last game in charge of Malvern Town tomorrow against Boldmere St Michaels (ko 3pm) after seeing his side slip back to the bottom of the Baker Joiner Midland Alliance.

Interviews for the vacant manager’s role at the Langland Stadium are under way with an announcement expected next week and Pitt, who is on the four-man shortlist to replace Martin Stephens, hopes he will get more time to restructure the squad.

But while he has brought in 11 new players during his month-long spell in charge so far, Pitt says he has been frustrated with further recruitment due to the uncertainty surrounding the manager’s job at the club.

Malvern slipped to the foot of the table after crashing to a 5-3 home defeat to fellow strugglers Willenhall Town in their six-pointer on Saturday. They now hope to get back to winning ways when they host fifth-placed Boldmere tomorrow.

This is followed by another home league clash with Westfields on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

Malvern’s round-robin tie at Stourport Swifts in the Worcestershire Royal Infirmary Cup was postponed on Tuesday night due to a waterlogged pitch.

Right-back Jack Florence is set to return for Town tomorrow after recovering from an ankle injury.

Pitt said: “It’s frustrating but I’m just getting on with the job and seeing how it goes.

“I need to strengthen, we need two or three more players in certain positions. Tomorrow could be the last game I am in charge or I could be here longer. I’m up to the job. I was brought in to steady the ship and if I get the job, then great, if someone else gets it, I don’t have a problem with that as it’s been a good experience.

“It’s going to be hard for the next manager to keep the side up and build on it during pre-season. That’s why we need to bring in new players and train.

“The club’s in limbo. It’s a difficult situation for everyone.

“If everyone is fit, we will give Boldmere a game. There were weaknesses against Willenhall which I need to address. The youngsters I have brought in are good enough.

“We’re not getting that consistency at the moment.”
