Malvern College pupil Cyrus Goodger won a gold medal at the West Midlands regional qualifier to the British Youth Fencing Championships.

He defeated 22 others to gain first position in the U/14 boys’ epee. Cyrus started fencing foil aged six with Professor Northam (British Fencing Association and The British Academy of Fencing).

His epee skills have improved further since he has been fencing with Matt Haynes, coach at Malvern College. Haynes lives in Malvern and is coach to the British Olympic team.

Many college pupils like Cyrus have achieved national and international rankings.

Worcestershire-born Cyrus now goes forward to represent the region in the national finals in Sheffield later this year.

His sister, Roshan, age 12, who attends The Downs, Malvern College Prep School, won a bronze medal at the qualifying final of the U/16 British youth competition.

She is coached by Raph Aldis at the Prep School and Haynes.
