ANDY Longley believes his Malvern RFC ‘underdogs’ can pull off a shock victory over runaway National Three Midlands leaders Bromsgrove at Spring Lane tomorrow (ko 2.15pm).

The director of rugby concedes his side face a tough examination of their fine recent form against a Boars side who have won all of their last seven games, including a 99-7 demolition of Kenilworth on Saturday, to lead the table by 11 points.

Meanwhile, Malvern go into the derby clash buoyed by a 44-19 victory at Peterborough, which included five tries for scrum-half Tom Longley.

This win puts Malvern up to sixth place and was their fifth triumph in six games. Malvern hooker Andy Murphy returns tomorrow along with number eight Michael Lau-Leong, who was rested at Peterborough.

Scrum-half Peter White takes a place on the bench as he makes a comeback from an ankle injury.

But winger Jimmy Aston (unavailable) and openside flanker Simon Daws (broken hand) miss out.

Longley said: “Bromsgrove clearly start as favourites tomorrow.

“They score a lot of points and will be very committed and a real challenge for us. But we beat Longton when they were top of the league earlier in the season.

“We will go into it with a degree of healthy confidence, but will be realistic. Hopefully there will be a big crowd.

“Tomorrow is a big test. We are underdogs. Bromsgrove have been near the top all season while we have been near the bottom until recently.

“We can’t be slack for one minute tomorrow and have to put in the best performance that we can. Nobody in the league underestimates us now.”
