HEREFORDSHIRE and Worcestershire’s leading sports bodies have announced the date of a special event to bring London 2012 into local communities.

Entitled ‘The Community Games – Bringing London 2012 Closer to you’, the event is being organised by the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire and the Herefordshire and Worcestershire 2012 ‘Raising our Game’ co-ordinators.

The London 2012 Olympics aren’t just about four weeks of sport in London, they provide a great opportunity for people to bring their communities together to take part in sporting and cultural activities inspired by, and in celebration of, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The aim of Community Games is to bring as many people together as possible from towns, cities and villages right across the two counties. The launch event on Wednesday, January 19, from 10.30am until 12.45pm is at Malvern College sports complex, will welcome David Moorcroft OBE, former Olympic Athlete and 5,000-metre world record holder and officially opened by Christina Boxer, triple Olympian.

The event is by invitation only and places must be booked. Car parking is free and lunch will be provided.
