Worcester Wanderers II 11, Malvern II 83.

JAMES Southall fired home four tries as Malvern seconds demolished Worcester Wanderers.

Visitors Malvern stormed to a 13-try victory with the scrum-half in dominant scoring form. Adam Dixon also had his shooting boots on, scoring nine conversions.

Following a short, sharp sequence of attacking phases, Dixon cut through the Wanderers defence to score and then convert to open Malvern’s account.

Further pressure from the visitors drove the Wanderers back to their five-metre line from where flanker Adam Green drove over to extend Malvern’s lead. Dixon put his side 19-0 ahead with the successful conversion.

The home side, who had been struggling for any continuity, began to gain the upper hand with aggressive rucking.

Wanderers forced a series of penalties and two kicks for goal cut the deficit to 13 points.

But Malvern struck back, with Green taking the ball over in the corner. Dixon added the extras.

Wanderers drove over for a try in the corner as the interval approached for 24-11.

The second period saw the introduction of Malvern’s James Martin, returning after six months out following knee surgery, replacing the promising Rory Gratwhol at number eight.

Martin’s hard, aggressive running created space behind the hosts’ now- tiring defence and tries came in rapid succession.

First, Martin burst through to score from 40 yards, then the outstanding Nick Miller repeated the feat. Dixon converted both efforts.

Debutant Aaron Bishop scored Malvern’s seventh try as the game opened up.

Wanderers had no answer to Malvern’s free-running backs and Southall took advantage of the gaps in the hosts’ line to notch a quick-fire hat-trick, all converted by Dixon.

Open-side Stuart Clark’s efforts throughout the game were rewarded with a fine try as he made a break to score under the posts.

Malvern winger Lee Jenkins then ghosted through almost unnoticed to score a fine individual effort.

The lively Southall weaved through to score his fourth. Dixon capped a fine all-round performance with his ninth successful conversion of the game.
