Westfields 3, Malvern Town 3.

MALVERN Town were left to share the points after conceding a late equaliser in a rearranged Aspire Midland Alliance derby.

A brace from striker Craig Selby and a strike from fellow frontman Troy Wood looked like sending Malvern home with all three points as they led with 13 minutes to go.

But the hosts equalised just a minute after Selby had scored and Malvern went home with only a point from allpay.park.

In the opening minutes, Westfields’ Daniel Moon missed an open goal when he headed over the Malvern crossbar.

Kear fired wide before Malvern snatched a 28th minute lead when Selby headed the visitors in front.

Westfields got back into the game when Jamie Addis drew them level before Scott Jackson’s shot put them 2-1 ahead on the stroke of half-time.

After the break, Selby made it 2-2 before Westfields’ marksman Kear missed a great chance to put his side in front when he shot into the side-netting.

Wood then beat Jamie Moore with a superb free-kick before Kear got Westfields’ equaliser in an end-to-end league encounter.

Then came the miss of the match when Phil Glover headed wide from three yards out which would have given Westfields the lead.

But the home side had to settle for a point over a lively Malvern team. Town travelled with just 12 players but manager Chris Palmer was happy was his threadbare side’s performance.

He said: “It was a good draw and probably a fair result.

“It was the same old story for us.

“We had just 12 players and only had goalkeeper Lewis Skyers on the bench.

“When we were 3-2 up with 13 minutes to go I thought that we would go on to win it.

“If I was offered a point before this match I would have taken it.

“But 75 to 80 per cent of the matches we have played this season we have scored first and not gone on to win, it’s frustrating.

“We outplayed Westfields and it was a great, man-of-the-match performance from Craig Selby.

“It’s games like Westfields that make me believe this club has a bright future.”
