Boldmere St Michaels 3, Malvern Town 1.

MALVERN Town suffered the backlash of Boldmere’s Saturday result, when they lost 5-2 at Rocester, as they crashed to a 3-1 mid-week Aspire Midland Alliance defeat.

In the first-half, Boldmere put Malvern under extreme pressure with shots blasting the visitors’ goal from all angles.

But, due to some poor shooting and good defending, the score stayed blank until the 41st minute when Nathan Gough headed home.

Malvern made a substitution at half-time, replacing Mark Brookes with new signing Alex Taffe from Bewdley Town.

The visitors with the slope now in their favour put increasing pressure on Boldmere.

It was no surprise when Taffe equalised after the ball came from left to right and Mason Mansfield slid the ball through to him to fire home.

Malvern kept attacking, looking for the win, but in the 71st minute the ball was played upfield and Robert Reid’s clearance struck Lee Osborne, went through the legs of the advancing Alex Hards into Malvern’s net.

Malvern went searching for another equaliser but, after a poor clearance from captain Paul Edwards, the ball was fired into Malvern’s area ,Alex Hards pushed it away and it fell to Jared McGiven to knock the re-bound home in the 85th minute.

MALVERN Town picked up their first Aspire Midland Alliance point since the opening game of the season win.

Malvern drafted in Alex Hards to replace injured keeper Lewis Skyers and he was called upon in the 20th minute after Loughborough had been awarded a free-kick 20 yards out and pushed it over the bar.

Six minutes later Andy Crosskey went down the right and his cross was tipped over by Loughborough keeper David Coombers. Four minutes later the host keeper had to save a shot from Dave Reynolds after good work between him and Lee Hooper.

Malvern took the lead in the 35th minute when, following a good move down the right, the ball was crossed to Reynolds on the left, who back-heeled the ball to the on-rushing Edwards, who rounded two players and fired the ball home.

Four minutes later the ball was played by Reynolds, who rounded three players and sent it a shot just wide of the post.

Play went from end-to-end with both sides looking to play attractive football. Edwards shot just wide from a long throw-in on the hour mark.

Eight minutes later, the hosts were awarded a free-kick.

The ball was played into the area where Steve Blensiksop, headed home.

In the 79th minute Mason Mansfield pulled the ball back to Crosskey, who shot wide. Two minutes later, Edwards’ curling shot went just over the bar.

With just a minute left on the clock, the ball went out to Crosskey, whose shot was pushed out for a corner by Coombers.
