FRUSTRATED Paul Pallett has resigned from his post as Malvern Town chairman following 10 years at the club, just days after appointing a new manager.

Pallett cited the “financial constraints” at the Langland Stadium club since the collapse of a potential takeover last month for his decision.

But, in a last act in charge, he appointed Chris Palmer as the new man to run the first-team, succeeding Joe Rawle.

He has been the reserve team manager for the last six years and was in charge of the youth side for the last four years.

Pallett’s resignation is the latest twist in a summer of uncertainty at Town and comes just weeks after take-over talks broke down with an unnamed consortium, who were believed to be the shareholders groups who failed to seize control of Worcester City last November.

But, it will now be Palmer’s job to pick up the pieces on the field as his new charges adjust to life in the Midland Alliance after relegation from the British Gas Business Division One Midlands last season.

Pallett said: “During my five years in office I have taken the club from the West Midlands Regional League to the Southern League, where we’ve been for the last three season.

“The club has gone as far as I can take it.

“I am very concerned about the direction the club is going in since the consortium walked away.

“Financially, the problems at the club grow daily and I am worried about its viability in the coming season.

“I would like to wish Chris Palmer all the best as the incoming first-team manager.”

Palmer joins Town after quitting his previous club, Hook Norton, after less than a week in charge.

The former Malvern and Ledbury Town player opted to rejoin one of his previous clubs after resigning from his post at the FTL Futbol Hellenic League Premier Division club last Thursday.

Malvern club officials are now busy preparing their pre-season programme ahead of their forthcoming campaign and already have some clashes against Gloucestershire teams lined up.

Pre-season training starts on Thursday, July 2, from 6.45pm
